In an area of 10 decares, Mrs Eleni and her husband give their outmost attention and care to cultivate 100% certified organic herbs. Their garden is located on the outskirts of Mandria village, an idyllic setting in the heart of the Troodos Mountains, not far from Platres holiday resort. Our name, Castellanos, derives from the Castelli area in Mandria. In Latin, castelli means citadel and was used to describe small Roman detached forts used as watch towers. Indeed the view from our farm is the whole village!
The family business started 12 years ago, driven by the passion of Mrs Eleni for aromatic herbs and their invaluable properties. A large variety of herbs has gradually grown in Castellanos farm, and Mrs Eleni is proud for their strong aroma which she attributes to the high altitude and the clean environment of the region.
Herbs are dried naturally, laid on nets and placed in the shade where good aeration brings about a uniform and quick drying. Organic Herbal teas are ecologically processed and packed in attractive bags and find their way in health food and bio-shops around Cyprus.
Mrs Eleni also runs two small renovated retail stores in the center of Foini and Mandria villages, frequently welcoming individuals, families and groups who visit independently or as organised groups. Sometimes, in cooperation with travel agents, Mrs Eleni takes visitors to the open fields (about a kilometer out of Foini and Mandria), and offers an educational guide tour around Castellanos herb garden. The tour ends with a cup of freshly prepared herbal tea, offered at the village stores.
The love and passion for organic farming has passed down to the new generation, who feel inspired and motivated to work towards achieving and sharing their vision.
